Concord Places Ninth at Randolph's Wildcat Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team finished ninth at Wildcat Invite hosted by Randolph College Saturday. 
 
Concord scored 31 points. Southern Virginia was the meet winner with 124 points. 
 
The top performance for the Mountain Lions came from senior Alaina Mills in the javelin throw. Mills tossed a personal-best mark of 31.81 meters as she placed fourth. In the process, Mills went from 15th in the Mountain East Conference to third ahead of next weekend's MEC Championships. It was the first time for Mills throwing over 30 meters in the event in her career.
 
Freshman Hayley Collins picked up a fourth-place showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she clocked a career-best time of 13:38.55. 
 
Collins was CU's top finisher in the 400-meter hurdles, coming through in 1:16.21 good enough for sixth. Junior Alexis Anzevino was seventh in 1:21.00. And fellow junior Shyanna James was just out of the scoring as she ran 1:24.46 for ninth. 
 
James cleared a personal-record height of 1.30 meters in the high jump to place eighth, moving into the top 16 in the MEC—with results still to come in from the weekend. 
 
Freshman Nadiyah Abdussalaam sprinted 13.14 seconds in the 100-meter dash to finish fifth while sophomore Talayna Holmes rolled out a season-best time of 13.22 seconds to place seventh. 
 
Sophomore Emma Jenkins finished sixth in the 800-meter run, crossing the tape in a season-best time of 2:31.38. 
 
Freshman Marin Parker (200-meter dash (27.65 seconds/200-meter dash) and graduate student Abbey Wallace (shot put/10.10 meters) were both sixth in their respective events. 
 
Next up for the Mountain Lions will be the MEC Championships that run April 28-30 at Frostburg State.
