LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Concord University men's track & field team notched eight personal-record performances on their way to an eighth-place finish at the Wildcat Invite hosted by Randolph College Saturday.
Concord tallied 36 points. Winner Emory & Henry racked up 142 points.
Two of the three top-10 finishers for CU in the 3,000-meter steeplechase recorded career-best times.
The freshman duo of
Andrew Tickle and
Wes Holcomb lowered their career times. Tickle came through in 10:29.13 to finish fourth. Holcomb was three spots back in 10:58.45. Junior
Connor Cormack finished eighth as he clocked 10:59.19.
CU got two personal-record performances in the 400-meter hurdles. Junior George Acuna II clocked 1:02.07 to place sixth while senior
Isaiah Jackson-Darby was 10
th in 1:03.65.
Two more Mountain Lions clipped off personal-record throws in the javelin throw that was contested Friday afternoon. Junior
Jonny Sweeney was eighth in the event with a toss of 35.90 meters, and more importantly vaulted into 15
th in the Mountain East Conference in the event. Freshman
Shawn Bennett marked 34.90 meters in his career showing. He placed ninth.
Though not a career sprint, graduate student
Gerard Hearst was the runner-up in the 100-meter dash, hitting the tape in 10.82 seconds. Freshman
Jaidyn Foddrell was sixth in 11.13 seconds.
Foddrell had the better performance in the 200-meter dash as he was the runner-up, sprinting 22.11 seconds. Hearst had a personal-record time of 22.46 seconds, good enough for eighth.
The final personal-record showing came from freshman
Bradley Harris in the 400-meter dash. He placed fifth with a time of 50.96 seconds.
Also of note this weekend, freshman
Braden Ward and graduate student
Alex Watty competed at the Mountaineer Twilight hosted by WVU. Ward clocked a career-best time of 15:18.14 in the 5,000-meter run. Watty came through the 800-meter run in 1:57.98.
Concord now turns its focus towards the MEC Championships April 28-30 at Frostburg State.
