ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team claimed third at the Concord Invite Friday at Callaghan Stadium.
The Mountain Lions racked up 73 points in the meet. Charleston scored 100 points to win.
Throwing events took center stage for CU as three athletes scored in both the discus and shot put. However, the top field event was the javelin where four tallied points.
Freshman
Meagan Poticher marked a personal record in the javelin as she finished as the runner-up at 27.83 meters. Sophomore
Lilly Jackson was fourth with a toss of 27.05 meters. Senior
Alaina Mills followed in fifth with a mark of 25.86 meters. And freshman
Nadiyah Abdussalaam hit 20.46 meters for eighth.
In the discus, Poticher paced the Mountain Lions with a toss of 26.67 meters, good enough for third. Graduate student
Abbey Wallace was seventh with a mark of 23.74 meters. And fellow graduate student
Jasmine Abrell finished eighth in 23.01 meters.
Poticher was the top finisher for Concord in the shot put with a fourth-place showing after tossing 8.83 meters. Wallace's 8.80-meter throw was good enough for fifth. And freshman
Abby Humphrey marked 8.32 meters for sixth.
CU picked up two individual wins.
The first came from freshman
Abbey Londeree in the 10,000-meter run as she stopped the clock at 47:01.64.
Graduate student
Emily Wallace continued her strong season by running 4:59.20 in the 1,500-meter run for the individual victory. Sophomore
Katy Walkup was the fifth in the event with a time of 5:35.89. Freshman
Charlotte McGinnis stopped the clock at 5:46.75 for fifth. And junior
Kaylee Dixon placed seventh, coming through in 6:15.79.
Junior
Shyanna James was the runner-up in the high jump as she cleared 1.17 meters. In other field event performances, Jackson was third with mark of 4.85 meters in the long jump.
Freshman
Hayley Collins sprinted 1:19.97 in the 400-meter hurdles to place third. Junior
Alexis Anzevino was a spot back with a time of 1:20.92.
Freshman
Izzy Williams was CU's top finisher in the 100-meter dash as her time of 13.55 seconds was good enough for fifth. Sophomore
Talayna Holmes was sixth in 13.75 seconds.
Concord's final regular-season meet with be April 19-20 at the Wildcat Invite hosted by Randolph College.
