BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Graduate student
Emily Wallace of the Concord University women's track & field team has been selected as the Mountain East Conference Athlete of the Week presented by The Health Plan, the league office released Monday afternoon.
Wallace, a native of Dry Fork, Virginia, receives her second athlete of the week honor since January, but her first during the outdoor season.
Over the weekend, Wallace won the 800-meter run at the Dr. Jack Toms Invite hosted by the University of Lynchburg. Wallace clocked a time of 2:17.15 which also leads the MEC this spring. She edged Lynchburg's Hannah Edwards by just over a second for the win.
After Saturday's race, Wallace now has the top times in the MEC in both the 800 and 1,500 meter runs, and she has also clocked the second-fastest 5,000-meter time in the conference for the outdoor season.
The Mountain Lions will once again be in action at Lynchburg when they travel to the Hornet Open Friday and Saturday.
