Concord Impresses at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE – The Concord University women's track & field team competed at the 49er Classic Friday and Saturday at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.

In a meet stacked with Division I schools, the Mountain Lions recorded career-best times and marks.

Sophomore Emma Jenkins ran an outdoor personal-best time in the 800-meter run as she clocked 2:32.51. Fellow sophomore Colette Lindley came through in 2:40.65.

Graduate student Emily Wallace was four seconds shy of her career best in the 1,500-meter run as she came through in 4:41.73, placing 17th in the event.

For the Mountain Lions in the 5,000-meter run, freshmen Sara Turner and Piper Doughton clocked 20:48.85 and 21:36.01, respectively. Both sported career-best times.

Freshman Nadiyah Abdussalaam was top 20 in two events. She scored 3,167 points in the heptathlon and finished 20th. Her mark of 9.99 meters in the triple jump landed her in 20th.

In other field action, the trio of junior Lilly Jackson, senior Alaina Mills and freshman Meagan Poticher competed in the javelin. Jackson tossed 26.93 meters. Poticher had a mark of 24.69 meters, and Mills recorded a throw of 23.39 meters. Jackson's best mark in the long jump was 4.72 meters.

Freshman Charlotte McGinnis made her debut on the track after missing the indoor campaign with injury. She clocked 13:14.77 in the 3,000-meter to place 25th.

And rounding out the top performances for CU was the trio of Hayley Collins (1:14.66), junior Alexis Anzevino and junior Shyanna James (1:25.60) in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Mountain Lions are next in action at Lynchburg's Dr. Jack Toms Invite March 22-23.
