HAVE A NIGHT
In Concord's 90-83 win over West Virginia State Wednesday night, senior guard
JJ Harper finished with a season-high 28 points as he shot 9-for-15 from the floor. Harper's point total was two off his career high set last season versus Wheeling, and was one point shy of tying the single-game high for the season for any CU player—fifth-year senior forward
Jevon Laidler posted 29 points in a win over Notre Dame December 2. Harper equaled his career high with three made three-pointers versus WVSU, all coming in the first 10 minutes of the game. Since back-to-back games under 10 points versus Salem and Virginia Union, Harper is averaging 19.2 points per game in his last five contests while shooting 53.3 percent (32-for-60) from the floor. Harper has also pulled down five or more rebounds in six straight games.
BLOCK PARTY
The Mountain Lions recorded eight blocks in the win over West Virginia State as they finished one shy of their season high set in the first game of the year at Indiana (Pa.) and again at Frostburg State at the beginning of February. Harper swatted three shots with sophomore forward
Rene Diop notching his 16
th multi-block game of the season. Freshman guard
Georges Archer tallied his fourth career block in the game. Sophomore forward
Ayden Ince and sophomore guard
Kollin Tolbert also had a block in the contest. Diop leads the MEC in blocks per game (2.1) while Harper has moved into third in the league (1.4 blocks per game). Over his last five games, the Gotha, Florida native has 11 blocks. As a team, Concord's 127 blocks on the season are sixth most in program history.
90/50 CLUB
By posting 90 points in the victory over West Virginia State, Wednesday night marked the eighth time this season that CU has hit the 90-point mark. Wednesday evening was also the eighth time this winter that Concord has shot 50 percent or better from the floor with seven of those occurrences coming since January 20. The eight 90-point games for the Maroon and Gray this season are the most since the 2018-19 team also reached 90 points eight times. The last Concord team to score at least 90 points more than eight times was the 2015-16 squad that tallied 90 points 11 times. The 50-percent showing from the floor in eight games this year are the most since the 2015-16 team made half of their shots in 11 games. In the month of February alone, CU averaged 85.7 points per game and shot 49.6 percent from the field.
STARTING FAST
Concord goes for the season sweep of Glenville State after defeating the Pioneers 101-79 at home January 27. In the first meeting this season, CU started the game on a 22-3 run over the first 5:30 of the contest. The Mountain Lions posted a season-best 57.8 field goal percentage. Even though CU topped the century mark, no Concord player scored more than junior forward
Amare Smith's 13 points. Seven players finished in double figures. Furthermore, the Maroon and Gray bench nearly outscored the starters (53-48). Along with Smith's 13 points, junior guard
Corey Boston and Ince netted 12 points a piece off the bench. Fueled by the tremendous start, Concord scored 62 points in the first half of the win—the most points in any half this season.
DOWNTOWN SHOWCASE
Also in CU's late January win over Glenville State, the Mountain Lions canned a season-best 11 three-pointers as it only needed 21 attempts to score 33 points from beyond the arc. Boston, Laidler and senior guard
Jordan Wooden combined to go 7-for-7 from three-point distance with Laidler connecting on three triples. Ince went 2-of-3 from long distance. Glenville State matched Concord's 11 three-pointers in the January meeting. GSU enters Saturday making 9.6 three-pointers per game which is third in the MEC and 29
th in Division II. Individually, Devin Collins is tied for third in the MEC with 63 made three-pointers The Mountain Lions are holding teams to 7.4 made triples per game and Concord's 33.7 percent three-point defense is fourth best in the conference this winter.
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
With a win Saturday, Concord can notch its 22
nd win of the season which would be the most wins for the program since the 2015-16 team that also won 22 games. However, the team from eight years ago needed three tournament wins to get to 22 victories. A 22
nd regular-season win for the Mountain Lions would be the most regular season wins in program history. CU has won 21 regular season games three other times in program history (1990-91, 1991-92, 2003-04). With their 11
th home win Wednesday, this year's squad has tied for the most wins in a single season since 2014-15, and a win on Saturday would give Concord double-digit road wins for the first time since the 2018-19 campaign.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
17- By holding West Virginia State under 45 percent shooting Wednesday night, it marked the 17
th time this year CU has held the opposition to less than 45 percent.
21- Rebounding margin for Concord (48-27) in the January win against Glenville State.
120- With a win Saturday, head coach
Todd May would tie Joseph Friedl (1949-56) for the fourth-most wins in program history.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS

Smith is ninth in the MEC in scoring (14.5 per game) and third in both assists per game (5.2) and steals per game (1.6). Collins scored 20 points at Concord on the strength of five made three-pointers. The Pioneers did tally 47 bench points versus CU in January.
