ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team plays three games over the weekend at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina.

CLIMBING THE LADDER
In Monday's 12-4 loss to Ashland, graduate pitcher Eddie Blake pitched 7.1 innings as he struck out four. In his outing, Blake passed current CU assistant coach Trent Abernathy (2017-21) for seventh in all-time innings pitched at Concord with 210.0. Additionally, graduate pitcher Andrew Neff moved into fifth in all-time innings pitched Sunday as he jumped over Jason Sharp (1997-00) with his 238.0 innings. Also in Monday's game, fifth-year senior infielder Zack Saryeldin collected his 51st career double as he is now within four doubles of third place at CU, currently held by Brooks Cullen (2007-10). After a three-hit afternoon versus Ashland, Saryeldin is now five hits shy of 200 for his career.

FROM THE LEFT SIDE
Even though CU was swept by Ashland, the lone two Mountain Lion left-handed bats produced in the three-game set. Sophomore utility Dawson Gragg who played both first base and center field in the series was on base four times with two hits in the final game Monday afternoon. Gragg has two multi-hit games over his last four games and has hit safely three of the last four. Meanwhile, senior infielder Daniel Layne continues to lead Concord in hitting through seven games with his .435 average that has also elevated his OPS to 1.022. Layne already has three multi-hit games this season, including a 2-for-3 day against Ashland in the series finale.

BEST OF THE BEST
The Mountain Lions will be facing their first nationally-ranked non-conference team since 2022 when they face 18th-ranked West Chester Saturday afternoon. CU's last non-conference nationally-ranked foe was 23rd-ranked Mercyhurst during the 2022 season. Concord defeated MU, 5-3, March 10, 2022 behind a strong pitching performance from Blake and three home runs. Senior infielder Chris Satcher launched a three-run homer while Kyle Keenan and Saryeldin each had solo home runs. Blake tossed 7.2 innings as he gave up three hits and two runs while striking out four. Junior pitcher Rylee Nicholas recorded the final four outs for his first career save. Saryeldin accounted for two of the seven CU hits in the contest.

THE OPPONENTS AT A GLANCE
Mercyhurst's lone win is against Mountain East Conference foe Notre Dame. Two of the three losses for the Lakers have come by a single run, including an 11-10 defeat to D'Youville. MU has scored at least 10 runs in three of the four games. Zachary Kourous has three extra-bases hits and eight RBI on the season. Corbin Foy has 11 strikeouts in 7.1 innings on the mound.

West Chester is off to a 3-0 start on the season as it has piled up 45 runs. Joe Kaleck has already homered three times and driven in eight runs. Avery Spencer has a team-best 11 RBI. Joe Sperone tossed five shutout innings versus Glenville State, but received a no decision.

D'Youville roared back from n 10-5 deficit in the ninth inning against Merychurst for one of its three wins on the season. The other two victories for the Saints are against Clarion. Jeremy Glinski has 10 hits in 13 at-bats so far this season with six going for extra bases (four doubles, two home runs).
