HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Concord University women's track & field team placed seventh at the Mountain East Conference Championships that wrapped up Saturday at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex.
Concord just missed out on sixth place as it scored 37.5 points while Glenville State was a half-point ahead of CU. Charleston was the team champion with 172 points.
Graduate student
Emily Wallace had a stellar day in her final indoor championships. Wallace was the runner-up in the mile (5:08.04) as she led going into the final lap. She came back later Saturday afternoon with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:17.43.
Joining Wallace in the 3,000-meters was junior
Madison Cornett who ran a career-best time of 10:51.91 and finished ninth, and sophomore
Katy Walkup who placed 11
th in a time of 11:07.79.
In the mile run, sophomore
Emma Jenkins placed 11
th with a time of 5:40.62 while fellow sophomore
Emma Londeree was 12
th in 5:40.67.
Freshman
Izzy Williams scored points for CU in two sprint events. She clocked a personal-record time of 58.41 seconds in the 400-meter dash to place fifth. And in the 200-meter dash, Williams stopped the timer at 26.26 seconds to finish seventh.
Freshman
Nadiyah Abdussalaam recorded two points in the triple jump with a mark of 10.22 meters, placing seventh.
The 4x400-meter relay unit of freshmen
Hayley Collins and
Marin Parker along with Wallace and Williams placed ninth in a showing of 4:17.38.
West Virginia Wesleyan's Samantha Cash was both the MEC Championship MVP and MEC Field Athlete of the Year. Charleston's Beth Sykes was the MEC Track Athlete of the Year while her coach Nick Bias took home MEC Coach of the Year honors. West Virginia State's Candace Morris rounded out the conference awards by getting MEC Freshman of the Year.
Concord begins the outdoor season March 8-9 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Â
