ATHENS, W.Va. – During the holiday season, the Concord University Sports Information Department will be unveiling the top moments, games and storylines from the past year in Concord Athletics in countdown form.
From the top games, All-American recognition, NCAA Tournament appearances and more we hope you enjoy a look back at Concord Athletics over the last 365 days.
Concord volleyball checked into the countdown at number eight in 2023. And this year, head coach
Kate Dillon and the Mountain Lions find themselves in the same spot after a historical 2024 season.
Wins over Charleston, for the first time since 2016, and a victory over Fairmont State for the first time in more than 30 years propelled Concord back into the Mountain East Conference Tournament in consecutive seasons—the first time in the MEC Tournament in back-to-back years since 2013 and 2014. Once in the MEC Postseason, CU outlasted West Liberty in a five-set instant classic in the quarterfinal round to advance to a tournament semifinal for the first since 1992.
In collecting 17 wins, Concord posted its best home record in the 16-year tenure of
Kate Dillon, going 11-1 at the Carter Center. The .917 win percentage in home games in 2024 was tied for the sixth-highest mark in Division II.
All the success for the Maroon and Gray helped the Mountain Lions haul in some year-end awards.
Meg Williams became Concord's first All-MEC First Team selection in eight years.
Allie Davis landed on the All-MEC Second Team and
Chloe Thompson earned All-MEC Honorable Mention. The three all-conference performers marked the first time that Mountain Lion had three all-conference selections in the same season since 2001.
Additionally, Williams became CU's first all-tournament team player since 1992.
Concord seeks to continue to climb in the MEC as it only graduated two seniors from this year's history-making squad.
