ATHENS, W.Va. – During the holiday season, the Concord University Sports Information Department will be unveiling the top moments, games and storylines from the past year in Concord Athletics in countdown form.
Today, the countdown begins and will travel through December 31. From the top games, All-American recognition, NCAA Tournament appearances and more we hope you enjoy a look back at Concord Athletics over the last 365 days.
The countdown kicks off with the showcasing of the new facilities at Concord along with improvements and upgrades in the athletic department.
Since the calendar flipped to 2024, construction has begun on Concord's new indoor practice facility which is adjacent to Christie/Cox Court in the Carter Center (the old pool area). The facility which is scheduled to be done in the summer of 2025 will include a turf practice area, a state-of-the-art weight room, golf simulators and a small track around the turf area.
In the spring, new bleachers and scoreboards were installed in the Carter Center. And with the upgrades, volleyball moved into its new home—away from the auxiliary gym and onto Christie/Cox Court.
Early in the summer, it was announced that Concord men's and women's soccer would be making the move back to play on campus starting in the fall of 2024.
With the announcement of soccer joining football at Callaghan Stadium, the press box was given a fresh coat of paint to help it stand out more on game days. A brand sound system was installed at Callaghan Stadium to assist in the game day atmosphere. And just before the start of the fall season, a new wind screen was placed at Callaghan Stadium.
Between Callaghan Stadium and the CU Softball Field, renovated basketball courts and pickleball courts were competed late in the fall for student recreation and community use.
