BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Junior forward Abbie Smith of the Concord University women's basketball team has been tabbed Mountain East Conference Player of the Week presented by The Health Plan, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Smith scored 18 points and hauled in a career-high 20 rebounds in an 84-78 home overtime win over UVa.-Wise Wednesday. The Little Hocking, Ohio native grabbed an offensive rebound and connected on a putback layup with 17 seconds remaining to push the game into overtime. To go along with her 18-point, 20-rebound performance, Smith came away with two steals, one block, and knocked down a pair of free throws while shooting 61.5 percent from the field (8-for-13).

On the season, Smith ranks fifth in the MEC scoring 16.3 points per game and is second in the league hauling in 11.7 boards per game. Monday marks the first Player of the Week honors for Smith in her career.
