TAKE IT AWAY
Concord's defense forced a season-high four turnovers versus Glenville State in Saturday's 24-21 defeat. The Mountain Lions recorded two interceptions and two fumble recoveries as junior defensive back Khwan Mickens accounted for half the takeaways with his second fumble recovery of the season and his first career interception. Freshman defensive back Mario Revels came up with a first-half interception in his first career start. And the final turnover was a fumble recovery by sophomore defensive back Nehemiah Scott. CU's four takeaways are the most since tallying five forced turnovers at UNC Pembroke in the final game of the 2022 season. Mickens is the first Concord player with multiple takeaways in the same game since John Merica at West Liberty in 2022. And graduate defensive lineman Vonte Pannell helped Mickens' cause with his third career forced fumble—the most among active CU players.

RUNNING WILD
The Mountain Lions' offensive production versus Glenville State was highlighted by senior running back JQ Brown rolling up 206 yards on the ground. Brown churned out an average of 12.1 yards per carry as he added two touchdowns Saturday afternoon. He broke off runs of 37, 59 and 80 yards against GSU with his longest run resulting in his second touchdown of the afternoon in the third quarter. Additionally, he became the first player with two rushes of 50 or more yards in the same game since Calvinaugh Jones versus UVa.-Wise in 2015. Brown's 80-yard dash was the third season out of the last four years that CU has had a play from scrimmage go for 80 or more yards. Junior running back TJ Finney had a run of 88 yards versus West Virginia Wesleyan last season.

TIGHT END IS ALWAYS OPEN
Senior tight end Jordyn Bentley caught a touchdown for the second consecutive week as he hauled in a 12-yard reception in the second quarter. The touchdown was Bentley's fourth career score and matches his total from the 2023 season. Over the last two games, Bentley has caught six passes for 76 yards and two touchdowns after only having seven receptions for 59 yards through the first five games. Meanwhile, junior tight end Bryce Ferguson reeled in a career-best three receptions versus Glenville State and recorded CU's longest reception of the afternoon as he had a catch and run of 25 yards in the first half.

BACK END BOYS
Not only did the CU secondary come up with two interceptions Saturday, the Mountain Lions recorded a season-high four pass break-ups. Scott notched his team-best five PBU of the year while junior defensive back Cole McKinney logged his third PBU of 2024. Even the linebackers, sophomore Ryker Brown and senior Samaj Washington, chipped in a PBU each in the game. Saturday also marked the fifth straight game that Concord held the opponent to less than 200 yards passing as the Maroon and Gray limited GSU's Anthony Garrett to 177 yards on 17-for-32 passing. The last time a CU defense held six straight opponents under 200 yards through the air was the final four games of the 2012 season, and the first five games of the 2013 campaign.

SUCCESS AT CEBE
Concord has won six straight games at West Virginia Wesleyan's Cebe Ross Field, having not been dealt a defeat by the Bobcats on their home turf since a 20-13 loss in 2010. The win streak, however, has not come without some late-game drama. Two years ago, the Mountain Lions needed an interception from Marcellus Saint just past midfield to halt a potential game-winning drive in the final minute by WVWC in a 34-32 win. Former CU kicker Luke Walls delivered a game-winning 40-yard field goal on the game's final play in a 34-31 win in 2018. And in 2016, all-conference quarterback Brian Novak engineered a 10-play, 90-yard drive in the final minutes of the game in a 20-17 Concord win. CU has won six straight games overall versus WVWC dating back to 2018.

500 CLUB
In last year's 38-9 win for the Mountain Lions at Callaghan Stadium, Concord rolled up 540 yards of offense with Finney ripping off 226 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. The 540 yards were the most for CU last fall with the next closest being 369 at Wheeling in week four of the 2023 season. Concord's offense appears to be clicking at the right time after racking up a season-high 397 yards against a Glenville State defense that was only surrendering 356 yards per game this season. And the Maroon and Gray has put up more than 500 yards of offense in the last two games versus WVWC after amassing 565 yards two years ago.

STARTS UP FRONT
Concord tallied a season-high five sacks in last year's victory over West Virginia Wesleyan. Senior defensive lineman AJ Covington, Pannell, sophomore linebacker Brodee Rice and graduate linebacker Jamari Smith all had a sack in 2023 at Callaghan Stadium. In all, the Mountain Lions created nine negative plays versus WVWC last year. Pannell, Rice and Smith all had two tackles for loss in last year's contest. CU bottled up Wesleyan for just 45 net rushing yards. Concord has recorded four of its eight sacks on the season in the last two games with freshman defensive lineman Jacorey Jackson and Washington notching a sack each versus Glenville State. Jackson is second on the team with 6.5 TFLs. Graduate defensive lineman Delando Morris leads the way with 7.5.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

6- Concord's six-game win streak over Wesleyan is the longest over one opponent since winning seven straight over both Fairmont State and West Virginia State between 2009-15.

6.5- Tackles for loss by Jackson on the season ranks in a tie for ninth in the MEC, but is first among freshmen.

12.1- Rushing average by Brown versus Glenville State was the best for a CU running back with at least 15 carries since Jones averaged 15.2 yards per tote in 2015 versus UVa.-Wise.
