IN THE THICK OF THINGS
The Mountain Lions started conference play Thursday at West Virginia State before traveling to Charleston Saturday. CU was on the brink of winning all four games, but ended up losing those contests by a combined six runs. Sophomore outfielder/pitcher
Rachael Koller continues to swing a hot bat as she recorded five hits in the four games, and has hit safely in five of the last eight games. Freshman catcher/infielder
Lorelai Ellerby had her first career multi-hit game in Saturday's 8-6 setback at UC while also recording her first career triple. And freshman catcher/utility
Morgan Gleason notched her first career multi-RBI game against Charleston with a bases-clearing double in the third inning of game two.
PITCHER'S DUAL
Sophomore pitcher
Nancy-Jo Roberts was a hard luck loser for the Mountain Lions in Thursday's 2-1 defeat at West Virginia State in which the Yellow Jackets scored both runs in the bottom of the sixth with one of those coming unearned against Roberts. Tuesday's doubleheader will be a homecoming for the Saltville, Virginia native as she grew up just 11 miles from the Emory & Henry campus. In three of her last four starts, Roberts has allowed two or fewer runs. In last year's 3-1 win over E&H in Athens, sophomore pitcher
Caitlyn Bauer was sharp as she gave up just three hits and one earned run while striking out seven in a complete-game win.
STAY HOT
Concord ended up splitting with Emory & Henry last season as the Wasps scored the final five runs in an 8-5 game. Sophomore utility
Kylee Stacy was 3-for-7 in the doubleheader with three RBI. Senior catcher/first baseman
Jolie Privett also had three hits in six at-bats. Stacy goes into Tuesday's doubleheader having collected two, two-hit games in the last three contests. Two of the last four hits for Stacy have been doubles. She is tied for the team lead in doubles with four with freshman infielder
Lacie Lewis. Despite being the pitcher of record for CU in the loss to Emory & Henry, Koller tied her career high with 10 strikeouts after she had struck out 10 earlier in her freshman season against Coker.
