PILING UP THE RUNS
The Mountain Lions enter conference play off a sweep of Bluefield State where they scored 22 runs, including 15 in game two—the most runs for CU since March 2020 against Upper Iowa. Graduate infielder Sarah Thompson was a perfect 3-for-3 versus Bluefield State in two games, and she hit .473 last week in eight games on her way to being named MEC Player of the Week. Freshman first baseman Morgan Cline hit her first career home run in game one versus Bluefield State and starts the week ninth in the league in RBI (13) while Thompson is 10th (12). Freshman infielder Lacie Lewis picked up her second career multi-RBI game with two RBI in game two versus Bluefield State.

CLOSE CALLS
The last three games and five of the last seven contests between Concord and West Virginia State have been decided by two runs or less dating back to March 2021. CU was clipped by the Yellow Jackets on the road, 6-5 and 4-3, last spring. In the 6-5 decision, sophomore pitcher/outfielder Rachael Koller recorded three RBI, including a two-run double. Sophomore pitcher Caitlyn Bauer struck out seven. Koller was the pitcher of record in the 4-3 loss as she struck out four over 6.2 innings before a walk-off single by WVSU. Thompson had four hits while senior catcher/first baseman Jolie Privett notched two hits. Privett goes into Thursday's having collected four hits in nine at-bats in her last four games.

FRIENDLY CONFINES
Even though CU only won one of the four games played between the Mountain Lions and Golden Eagles, Concord was able to solve UC pitching on the road as it scored 19 runs in early April. After losing 9-7, the Maroon and Gray rolled to a 12-1 win. Koller had a pair of two-hit games at UC last season and tallied six RBI. In fact, she had nine of her 17 RBI for the season versus Charleston and West Virginia State. Privett had a pair of two-run singles in the 12-1 win. Bauer was the winning pitcher on the road as she tossed a complete game with three strikeouts.

WEST VIRGINIA STATE AT A GLANCE
Overall Record: 5-4

Away Record: 0-0
Neutral Record: 3-4

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
A couple veterans are pacing the WVSU offense. Emma Ruth is hitting a MEC-leading .621 and has driven in 13 runs. Kasey Murphy is tied for the MEC lead in RBI as she has already collected 21. Murphy has four home runs and is batting .517. The Yellow Jackets have been shaky in the circle as they are allowing teams to hit .349 and have an ERA of 6.39. The two home wins for West Virginia State came against Bluefield State.

CHARLESTON AT A GLANCE
Overall Record: 6-3
Home Record: 0-0
Away Record: 5-3
Neutral Record: 1-0

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Reigning MEC Player of the Year Hannah Rose is once again pacing the UC offense with a .462 batting average to go with a pair of home runs and 10 RBI. Allysa Lake is adding nine RBI and a .444 average. Brianna McCown threw a perfect game on March 5 against Virginia Union as she notched 12 strikeouts. Longtime Charleston ace Danielle Bauer has tossed 15 innings so far this season and has an ERA of 0.47. This weekend will be the first home games of the season for the Golden Eagles.
