ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University baseball team and head coach
Kevin Garrett have announced the program's schedule for the 2024 season, the team unveiled Wednesday.
Currently, Concord is scheduled for 48 regular-season games with 32 coming within the Mountain East Conference and another 16 slated for non-conference competition.
The Mountain Lions will play 25 times at home this season to go with 20 away games and three neutral contests. The season opens with a three-game series at Mercer County rival Bluefield State, February 10-11. The following weekend begins a six-game homestand with three-game sets scheduled against Pitt-Johnstown (February 17-18) and Ashland (February 23-25).
March opens with three games in Cary, North Carolina (March 2-4) with opponents that will be announced at a later date.
The final two tune-ups in non-conference play are against UVa.-Wise (March 6) and Emory & Henry (March 12). The Wise game will be at home while the March 12 contest is at E&H.
In MEC play, Concord will play five MEC North Division schools along with Salem in a single doubleheader. The 20-game MEC South Division slate features a four-game series, two doubleheaders each weekend.
Conference play opens March 16 at Frostburg State before Concord travels to Fairmont State March 17. CU welcomes Notre Dame to Anderson Field March 24 to conclude a brief four-game homestand.
After traveling to Wheeling and West Liberty March 29-30, MEC South Division play starts on the road against Davis & Elkins (April 6-7). The first home divisional series is against West Virginia Wesleyan April 13-14. And the following weekend, CU welcomes MEC South Division rival West Virginia State to Anderson Field.
To close April, Concord will be entertained by Charleston on the road April 27-28. And the regular season wraps up with a split four-game series against Glenville State. May 3 sees the Mountain Lions welcome the Pioneers before traveling to GSU May 5.
SCHEDULE NOTES
-The 23 conference wins for the Mountain Lions last season were the most since the MEC went to a 32-game league slate prior to the 2017 season.
-Concord has won eight straight home games against West Virginia Wesleyan and 10 of the last 11 games played at Anderson Field between the teams.
-CU limited Bluefield State to seven runs in three games last season as the Mountain Lions won all three games between the two teams in 2023, including a 10-3 victory in the final game on February 22.
-Dating back to the 2021 season, eight of the last 14 games between Concord and West Virginia State have been decided by one run or less, including three of the four meetings last season in Institute, West Virginia.
