ATHENS, W.Va. – The past calendar year for Concord University Athletics have been full of memorable accomplishments, unforgettable games and moments and record-setting players and coaches.
From December 22 through December 31, the CU Sports Information Department will countdown the top 10 moments of 2023 in Concord Athletics.
The second day of the countdown takes us to the cross country course for a pair of career feats for men's cross country athlete
Logan Zuchelli and women's cross country athlete
Emily Wallace.
After back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division II National Championship Meet, Concord men's cross country came up a bit short in its quest to qualify for the national meet for a third straight year.
However, Zuchelli raced to an eighth-place finish at the Atlantic Regional Championship to punch his ticket to the Division II National Championship in Joplin, Missouri November 18. He became just the third CU athlete to earn all-region honors three or more times in a career. It also marked the seventh consecutive year that Concord has had at least one men's cross country athlete qualify for the national championship race.
Wallace brought her incredible career on the cross country course to an end with her third straight all-region nod. Just two years after her and the now-graduated
Hannah Altizer were the first all-region athletes in program history, Wallace made it a trifecta of all-region awards by claiming her highest finish at the Atlantic Regional Championship to date with a 12
th-place showing at Lock Haven University. Altizer and Wallace remain the only two all-region athletes in program history. Â
