POSTSEASON PICTURE
CU starts the weekend in third place in the MEC standings. Concord has 18 points, one point more than Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan, and four more points than sixth-place West Liberty. The third and fourth-place teams in the MEC will host a first-round playoff game while the top two seeds will receive a bye into the semifinals. The Mountain Lions own the tiebreakers over Davis & Elkins and West Liberty. Wesleyan finishes the season against West Liberty and D&E. WLU and Davis & Elkins both play WVWC to finish the season and each also play Wheeling.
SENIOR TRIO
Prior to Sunday's contest, the men's soccer program will recognize three seniors in forward
Ricardo Chinea-Pegler, defender
Tomas Fanello and goalkeeper
Sean Monro. Chinea-Pegler has played in 31 career games with 23 starts. He was Concord's leading scorer last season as he netted six goals and added three assists. Overall, Chinea-Pegler has eight goals and four assists in his career. During the spring and fall seasons in 2021, Fanello played in 22 games with 17 starts. He assisted on two goals during the fall 2021 campaign. Monro has been between the pipes for 10 career games, spending nearly 800 minutes in goal. The Martinsburg, West Virginia native has made 39 career saves and posted two shutouts, both during the spring 2021 season.
TOP OF THE TABLE
Of the four teams scrapping for the third and fourth spots in the MEC Tournament, the Mountain Lions by far play the hardest remaining schedule with Sunday's contest against Notre Dame as well as the road game at UC. NDC is unbeaten in eight of its last 10 games. UC is ranked third nationally. However, Concord has not backed down from the top teams this season. CU played to a 0-0 draw at the beginning of October with sophomore goalkeeper
Keegan Grant making a career-best 12 saves to help Concord earn a crucial point. Meanwhile, the Maroon and Gray is just one five teams, in 15 games, to score against Charleston. Junior midfielder
Fabian Amhof scored unassisted versus UC in the 39
th minute of the September 20 game in a 2-1 Charleston victory.
