BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Fifth-year senior infielder
Anthony Stehlin of the Concord University baseball team has been named co-MEC Scholar-Athletes of the Year, following a vote of league's administrators and the league office.

Stehlin shared the honor with two-time national champion wrestler Cole Laya of West Liberty.

Stehlin, a graduate student from Woodbridge, Va., is a two-time College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American as a member of the Concord baseball team. This season, Stehlin batted .339 with 14 doubles, two triples and 40 runs batted in. He also set a single-season program record for saves with seven. This spring he was a first team All-MEC selection as a pitcher and added honorable mention all-region honors from NCBWA. He was also named to the MEC All-Tournament Team.

Most recently, Stehlin earned the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award at shortstop, becoming the first gold glove winner in program history in nine years.

Stehlin garnered honorable mention All-American honors from NCBWA as a junior in 2021, while also being named the 2021 MEC Player of the Year. He was a two-time All-Atlantic Region selection as a position player in 2019 and 2021. He ranks top 10 in program history in runs, triples, stolen bases and saves.

In the classroom, Stehlin graduated with a 3.78 grade-point average as a Business Administration major at CU. He is currently pursuing an MBA with a 3.50 grade-point average in his graduate studies. Additionally, Stehlin was a CU Athletics Gameday worker, helping in a variety of roles.

Stehlin caps his storied career as Concord's first-ever MEC Scholar-Athlete in any sport.

The MEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
