VICTOR, N.Y. – Senior
Noah Clark of the Concord University men's golf team made another significant jump on the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Championship leaderboard during the final round at Ravenwood Golf Club Saturday.
Clark assured himself a top-20 finish by tying for 19
th after an even-par round of 72, pushing his three-day total to 222. His top-20 finish is the highest finish in program history since Evan Muscari was sixth in 2014.
Clark moved nearly 50 spots on the leaderboard after a being tied for 67
th Thursday.
The Pearisburg, Virginia native rebounded from a tough start in the third round. After bogeys on two of the first three holes, Clark got back to even for the round with consecutive birdies on the par-4, 331-yard seventh and a two on the par-3, 162-yard eighth hole. It was the second straight day that Clark registered a birdie on the course's shortest hole.
After a bogey to start the back nine, Clark answered with a birdie on the course's longest hole—the 597-yard, par-5 12
th. It was the second birdie at the 12
th for Clark in the tournament.
Clark tied for the second-best scoring average on the par-5s at Ravenwood (4.67) and was -4 for the tournament on the long holes.
The Mountain East Conference was well-represented among the leaders at the regional championship. Both Charleston and Davis & Elkins advanced to the NCAA National Championship later this month in Michigan. The top two advancing individuals were Post's Jace Carlisle and Southern New Hampshire's AJ Cavotta.
Jordan Hyland of Davis & Elkins was the regional champion after a three-day total of 213 that included back-to-back rounds of 70. He was three strokes clear of second place.
Including Clark, seven golfers from the MEC were in the top 25.
