Concord Finishes Spring Season as Runners-Up at Golden Bear Classic

DANIELS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team finished second at the Golden Bear Classic that concluded Tuesday afternoon at Glade Springs Resort.
 
CU finished five strokes off the pace set by Davis & Elkins. The Mountain Lions had a team total of 612 after rounds of 310 and 302.
 
Senior Noah Clark finished as the co-medalist of the tournament after a two-round total of 147. He shared the win with Indiana-East's Jake Miller.
 
Clark put together rounds of 74 and 73 as he finished the tournament strong by shooting -2 on the back nine Tuesday afternoon. The Pearisburg, Virginia native birdied the par-4, 470-yard 10th, and tied Miller for the lead by sinking a birdie on the par-5, 549-yard 18th hole to conclude play. In total, Clark had five birdies in the tournament, including birdying the par-5, second hole both days. Clark had the best scoring average on the course's par 5s at 4.63.
 
Fifth-year senior Brett Laxton finished fifth as he scored 76 and 75 for a total of 151. Laxton was one of four golfers to play the par 3s at +1 for the 36-hole tournament. With just two birdies in the tournament, Laxton played the front nine at +1 with an even round on the first nine Tuesday, to set the pace for his top-five placing.
 
Junior Colin Wiley moved up seven spots during the final round to place in a tie for 10th. After a 79 on Monday, Wiley fired off a 77 on Tuesday. Fellow junior Carson Proffitt match Wiley's 77 on Tuesday after an 81 in the first round. Proffitt tied for 17th at 158. Proffitt had two birdies in the final round, including one on the friendly second hole.
 
Freshman Grayson Murray finished with a total of 174 (93, 81). Playing an individual, sophomore Peyton Watts carded rounds of 92 and 87.
 
Tuesday marked the last collegiate round in the career of Laxton, a five-time all-conference selection, as it was the final round for Concord as a team.
 
Clark was selected last week to play in the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Tournament May 5-7 at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, New York.
