CATCHING FIRE
After starting the year 5-4-1, the Mountain Lions have won five straight games to secure their fifth-straight season with at least 10 wins. Individually, fifth-year senior forward
Leah Foster has scored six goals over the last two games to bring her career total to 54. The Wigan, England native is three goals away from tying Gemma Nortcliffe (2007-10) for the all-time lead in program history in goals. Senior midfielder
Courtney Smith has at least one point in the last three games, including scoring her first two goals of the season in Wednesday's 6-3 win over Wheeling. Fellow senior midfielder
Michelle Brogden has recorded points in four of five games during the winning streak that included her second career two-goal game versus West Liberty Sunday.
AMONG THE BEST
With the five-game winning streak, Concord has put itself in position to make the NCAA Division II Tournament for a third consecutive year—discounting the shortened 2021 spring season. On Wednesday, CU was listed as one of nine teams from the Atlantic Region that's in consideration for the national postseason. The top seven teams from the Atlantic Region make the final field. Other MEC teams that are under consideration are Fairmont State, Frostburg State and West Virginia State.
GOOD SPOT
Last year, Concord scored a season-high 10 goals versus Alderson Broaddus. Brogden had her first career brace while senior midfielder
Ellie Hawcroft came off the bench to score two goals. Smith and sophomore forward
Kylene Franklin both had two assists. Foster contributed a goal and an assist. Seven of the 10 goals scored by the Mountain Lions came in the first half. Additionally, Concord outshot AB 42-3 in the game. Last year's win over the Battlers was the fourth consecutive win in an 11-game winning streak that carried to the Atlantic Regional Championship.
