Concord Places Fifth at Dr. Wally Edgell Classic

DAVIS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's golf team finished fifth at the Dr. Wally Edgell D2 Classic that wrapped up Tuesday afternoon at Canaan Valley Resort.

The Mountain Lions were a combined eight-over par for the tournament as they shot rounds of 293 and 291 on the par-72, 6,984-yard course to finish at 584.

Concord was paced by a career tournament for senior Noah Clark. The Pearisburg, Virginia native was the runner-up as he tied his career-best round of 68 during the first round on Monday and went a stroke lower for a 67 Tuesday to finish at -9 for the tournament, two shots off the medalist Sean Addie of Davis & Elkins.

Fifth-year senior Brett Laxton fired a 75 Monday and came back with another consistent round of 73 on Tuesday. His two-day score of 148 was tied for 26th. Junior Colin Wiley was one shot of his career-best round Monday as he carded a 74 and followed it up with a 75 Tuesday to finish tied for 28th.

Freshman Grayson Murray shot rounds of 76 and 78 as his 154 was tied for 41st. Junior Michael Growe Jr. rebounded from a 79 Monday and closed strong with a 76 Tuesday to tie for 45th.

Led by Addie, Davis & Elkins was 16 strokes under par (560) for the tournament, winning by 12 shots over Glenville State.

Concord will play in its final tournament before the Mountain East Conference Championship when it travels to the Davis & Elkins Invite at Stonewall Jackson Resort in Roanoke, West Virginia September 27-28.
