ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University softball team begins the Mountain East Conference Tournament 12:00 p.m. Friday against Frostburg State at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.

FORMAT
The postseason will use double elimination with the Mountain Lions playing either West Virginia State or Notre Dame at 5:00 p.m. Friday. A win in either game Friday guarantees CU more games on Saturday.
RECORDS
Concord enters the postseason with a record of 17-19 overall and 19-13 in the MEC as it drew the third seed in the MEC South. CU received conference wins only based on West Virginia Wesleyan's forfeit from Monday.
Frostburg State is the second seed in the MEC North after going 20-12 in the conference. FSU is 22-15 overall.
FINDING A GROOVE
CU enters the MEC Tournament on a four-game winning streak, and overall Concord has posted wins in seven of its last 10 games, including a victory over Frostburg State. The winning streak is the second longest of the season for the Mountain Lions. Junior pitcher/outfielder
Laura Thompson has seen her batting average rise from .422 to .450 during CU's winning streak that includes a pair of three-hit games. Thompson is second in the MEC in average. In her last four starts in the circle, the Prince George, Virginia native has allowed just four earned runs over 28 innings while collecting 22 strikeouts. RISING TO THE TOP
Two seasons ago, the Mountain Lions made the MEC Championship Game before falling to West Liberty in the title contest. CU had to win four consecutive games on Saturday of the MEC Tournament after losing the first game against Fairmont State. Senior outfielder
Dani Bloomingdale was 6-for-15 in the MEC Tournament in 2019 and recorded four of her 13 RBI for the season during the six-game run. Schoolcraft and Thompson combined for all four wins in the circle with Schoolcraft saving Thompson's win over West Virginia State to advance to the MEC Championship. Thompson allowed six earned runs in 23 innings. Schoolcraft struck out 17 in 24 innings. Both Bloomingdale and Schoolcraft were named to the All-MEC Tournament Team.
HIT MACHINE
Concord split a road doubleheader with Frostburg State April 17. After falling to FSU 5-2, the Mountain Lions pounded out 12 runs on 16 hits, both the second highest single-game totals for the 2021 season. Thompson had five hits overall in the doubleheader while Bloomingdale and Richardson each added four hits. Richardson was 4-of-5 in the twinbill. Senior utility

Sarah Thompson, Witt and Richardson were 8-for-15 with seven RBI. Concord is 7-2 this season when Richardson hits cleanup. Â The Mountain Lions outhit Frostburg State 7-6 in the game one loss, but was only able to scratch across two runs against FSU's top pitcher Shawna Leonard.
FROSTBURG STATE AT A GLANCE
Once the leader in the MEC North, the Bobcats stumbled down the stretch of the season as they only won one of their final eight regular-season games. That came on the heels of Frostburg State winning 12 of 14 games. Sam Carver who bats .333 on the season also has three home runs and a team-best 27 RBI. Aliyah Ramey collected four hits in the doubleheader against Concord. Ramey leads the Bobcats with seven home runs while also tallying 24 RBI. Leonard averages over a strikeout per inning as she has punched out 119 batters in 113 innings. Leonard is 11-5 in the circle with a 2.14 ERA.
