CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Concord University men's track & field team finished seventh at the Golden Eagle Invite Saturday at Laidley Field.
The Mountain Lions finished the meet with 38 points. Charleston was the meet winner with 182 points.
Senior
Jason Weitzel headline the performances as he won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:01.43. Teammate and junior
Issac Prather ran 9:02.27 to finish as the runner-up. Both athletes went under Weitzel's old school record of 9:05.21. Additionally, Weitzel is ranked sixth in Division II in the steeplechase while Prather is eighth.
Junior
Cedric Drennen was among three CU athletes in the top 15 of the 5,000-meter run. Drennen went under the 15-minute barrier for the first time in his career as he clocked a time of 14:46.47 to finish fifth. Sophomore
Nate Leichner came through in 15:16.77 to place 14
th while freshman
Preston Prather was a second back in 15:17.38, good enough for 15
th.
Sophomore
Alex Watty was third in the 1,500-meter run as he stopped the timer at 4:06.98. In other middle distance action, junior
Cole Jackson ran 2:04.14 in the 800-meter run to place 13
th.
Senior
Marcus Wilson finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles as he ran a time of 56.76 seconds.
In the field events, senior
JT Turner thrww 13.35 meters in shot put to finish seventh. Freshman
Christian Sanderson marked 6.05 meters in the long jump for a ninth-place showing.
The 4x400-meter relay team of junior
Daniel Baldwin, Jackson, freshman
Isaiah Jackson-Darby and Wilson combined to clock a time of 3:42.89 to finish sixth.
Concord travels to the Bobcat/Tiger Invite Friday at West Virginia Wesleyan.
