ATHENS, W.Va. – The 2021 sports calendar at Concord included the return of sports, the honoring of double-digit All-Americans, conference championships and several broken records.

From December 22 through New Year's Eve, the Concord University Sports Information Department will look back on the top 10 moments and storylines from the past 365 days.

No one will ever forget March 12, 2020. It was the day that the sports calendar, at all levels, came to a standstill. Games were cancelled, college career unfortunately were ended and life as we know it became a whole lot different. The final event for CU was a walk-off win in baseball over Pitt-Johnstown before everything shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Between March 12, 2020 and January 7, 2021, 301 long days past before the return of sports for the Mountain Lions. The resumption of play was highlighted by the men's basketball team picking up a 64-62 win over Charleston on the road. A few days later, the women's basketball team stormed back for an exciting 70-67 home win over West Virginia State in the first on-campus event in 10 months.

2021 marked not only the return of sports, but also the renovations of four athletic facilities at Concord. In June, the completion of new turf at Callaghan Stadium was unveiled. That followed in the fall with turf being laid down—for the first time—at both Anderson Field and the CU Softball Field. And shortly before the completion of the artificial surfaces on the outdoor facilities, new hardwood was installed on Christie/Cox Court inside the Carter Center.
