Concord and West Virginia State Tie at 2-2

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with West Virginia State Sunday evening at the YMCA Cline Complex in a Mountain East Conference game.

CU (8-0-1, 6-0-1 MEC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute as junior forward Rachel Bell collected a deflection from a corner kick and buried her third goal of the season of the season.

The first half only featured seven total shots as Concord held WVSU (5-2-1, 4-1-1 MEC) to two shots.

The Mountain Lions were able to push their lead to 2-0 after junior midfielder Michelle Brogden delivered one of nine Concord corner kicks into the box where freshman midfielder Anna Davis tallied her first career goal in the 65th minute. Freshman defender Leah Fleming also got an assist on Davis' goal after she deflected it.

Concord's shutout bid held up until the 83rd minute when West Virginia State score to make it 2-1. The Yellow Jackets' momentum continued with a goal in the 84th minute to force overtime.

Senior goalkeeper Leah Marsh saved a shot in the 95th minute to keep the game knotted and send it to a second extra session. Concord had three shots in double overtime with the best chance coming from Brogden as her attempt was just over the crossbar in the 110th minute.

The Mountain Lions outshot WVSU, 18-10, in the game. Senior forward Leah Foster paced the effort with five. Marsh stopped five of seven West Virginia State shots on goal.

CU travels to Charleston 4:00 p.m. Wednesday.
