Concord Surges Past Frostburg State, 69-60

ATHENS, W.Va. – A 13-4 run to finish the game was good enough for the Concord University men's basketball team to pick up a 69-60 win over Frostburg State Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game inside the Carter Center.

Tied at 56 after two Frostburg State (2-5) free throws at the 4:07 mark of the contest, the Mountain Lions (4-3) had an immediate response 22 seconds later as senior forward David Bea Mulumba hit his only bucket of the game, a right-wing three-pointer to push CU back ahead by three, 61-58.

After trading scores, the Bobcats were still within striking distance at 62-60 with two minutes remaining, but the momentum swung back to Concord for good after an offensive putback from junior forward Da'Vion Moore at the 1:40 mark.

The Mountain Lions hit 5-of-8 free throws in the final 1:24 of the contest while holding FSU scoreless for the nine-point win.

CU trailed just once in the first half, 3-2, but could never separate itself from Frostburg State as the Bobcats stayed with eight, and was down 36-31 at halftime to Concord.

Concord built a lead of 42-34 with 17:11 left in the contest, but FSU had an answer with a 9-0 run to take a 43-42 lead four minutes later. From there, the lead changed hands nine times with three ties before Mulumba's basket at the 3:45 mark.

Moore came off the bench for a career day of 18 points on 9-of-10 shooting to go with 10 rebounds—his first career double-double. Included in the nine made field goals were three dunks. Fellow junior forward Mohamed Bundu supplied his own double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, including an 8-for-8 performance at the foul line.

Senior guard/forward Malik Johnson just missed his own double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. Johnson also handed out a team-high four assists.

Johnson combined with junior guards Seth Brown and Brandon Kennedy to hold the second-leading scorer in the MEC, Frostburg State's Agyei Edwards to 11 points on 4-of-13 shooting. Coming into play Saturday, Edwards was scoring nearly 25 points per game.

CU outrebounded the Bobcats, 45-26, and held FSU to 34.4 percent shooting (21-for-61).

The Mountain Lions face Wheeling on the road 7:30 p.m. Monday.
