SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Concord University men's basketball team lost 71-56 to Notre Dame Saturday afternoon in a Mountain East Conference game at Murphy Gymnasium.
NDC (3-5) used an 8-1 run in the closing stages of the contest to separate itself from Concord (4-4). The Mountain Lions got a three-pointer from sophomore guard
Ethan Heller with 6:43 left in the second half to close the deficit to 53-51.
After both teams went scoreless for nearly two minutes, the Falcons hit consecutive three-pointers to run the lead to 59-51 with 4:25 remaining. Notre Dame was able to hold the Mountain Lions to five free throws down the stretch of the game.
Concord held a 32-31 halftime lead, and was in control for much of the opening 20 minutes. Â CU used a 10-3 run to go up 14-12 on Notre Dame at the 11:08 mark of the first half, and NDC was only able to tie the game once more in the first half as the Mountain Lions by as much as eight points, 32-24, in the first half.
The first 13 minutes of the second half featured just three changes with neither team leading by more than five points until the late NDC surge.
Four different players finished in double figures for Concord. Junior forwards
Mohamed Bundu and
Da'Vion Moore each tallied 11 points with Bundu adding nine rebounds. Meanwhile, Heller and senior guard/forward
Malik Johnson netted 10 points each. Johnson grabbed eight rebounds.
The Mountain Lions held a narrow edge on the glass, 38-37, but it was NDC that shot 44 percent from the floor in the game.
Concord finishes up a two-game road trip against Fairmont State 6:00 p.m. Monday.
