ATHENS, W.Va. – With
the Mountain East Conference's announcement to conduct winter sports beginning no sooner than January 7, 2021, the Concord University volleyball team has released its 2021 schedule.
The Mountain Lions will play their season during February and March as the regular season runs five weeks with two matches up per week. Concord plays 10 matches this winter with a double-round robin slate against in-division opponents (Charleston, Davis & Elkins, Glenville State, West Virginia State and West Virginia Wesleyan).
While all game dates, times and locations are subject to change, for the time all matches begin at 7:00 p.m.
CU starts the season by hosting Davis & Elkins February 2 before a two-game road swing at West Virginia State and West Virginia Wesleyan, February 5 and February 9, respectively. The Mountain Lions return home on February 12 for a contest against Charleston before the return trip to Davis & Elkins February 16.
The road trip continues at Glenville State February 19.
To finish the season, the Maroon and Gray plays three of its final four games at the Carter Center against West Virginia State (February 23), West Virginia Wesleyan (March 2) and Glenville State (March 5). The lone road contest is against Charleston February 26.
SCHEDULE NOTES
-In last year's two meetings, Concord swept West Virginia Wesleyan, but needed a four-set and five-set win to down the Bobcats. Of the nine sets played, eight were decided by five points or less.
-The Mountain Lions are 8-2 in their last 10 contests with Glenville State, but one of the defeats came at home last season as Concord was outlasted by the Pioneers in five sets.
-In Concord's sweep of Glenville State on the road last season, junior right side
Peyton Wiseman had six kills to go along with a career-best six blocks.
-CU was 5-6 on the road last season, the best record away from the Carter Center since 2012 when Concord went 6-5.
