Brooke Dicks.
Â
Name: Brooke Dicks
Position: Staff Athletic Trainer
College Alma Mater: Mercyhurst (Bachelor's, 18) and Fort Hays State (Master's, '20)
Â
What made you decide to get into athletic training?
I always wanted to go into the medical field, but also did not want to go away from the sports world. So athletic training is a nice blend of the two.
Â
How did you land at Concord?
I was applying for jobs and thought it would be a nice fit. I was in Kansas at the time and wanted to move back to the east and actually have trees and mountains.
Â
What's your most memorable moment as an athletic trainer either at Concord or another athletic training stop?
I was still in undergrad when my most memorable moment happened. I had been with the team all semester and was there everyday with them. On senior day, all of the guys were getting recognized but they didn't recognize AT students. Before face off, one of the seniors on the team came over and gave me a hug and said "You've put in just as much work and helped us all semester. This senior day is for you too." Just shows that the athletes do recognize what we do and the work we put in.
Â
What's the most rewarding part of your job?
Watching an athlete come all the way back from an injury and doing what they love. It's amazing to watch and help with the whole process.
Â
Tell us where you're from and little bit about the area you grew up in.
I am from New Castle, Pennsylvania which is an hour north of Pittsburgh. It's at very small rural town where everyone knows everyone.
Â
Favorite vacation spot?
I haven't been on vacation in years, but I enjoy taking weekend trips up to Lake Erie and just being on the lake for a couple days.
Â
Best local restaurant to eat at?
I would have to say Moe's has been my go to.
Â
What's the biggest attribute you look for in an athlete?
Desire and love for the sport that they do! When they want to be there and put in the work to get back into the game, that makes treatment more enjoyable!
Â
What makes Concord special or what's your favorite thing about campus?
I really just like the campus, I think that it is really pretty.
Â
What advice would you go back and give yourself if you were 20-years old again?
To worry less. Just focus on what you can control and let all the other stuff go. No reason focusing on stuff that is out of your control.
Â
Favorite TV show unrelated to sports?
Grey's Anatomy
Â
What's one bucket list item you have yet to accomplish?
I would like to travel more around the world.
