On This Day in 2015: Football Scores 60 on Homecoming Against UVa.-Wise

ATHENS, W.Va. – Throughout the fall semester, the Concord University Sports Information Department will be looking back at different events and games that has shaped Concord Athletics to what it is today in a "On This Day" segment.

On this day in 2015, the Concord University football team rolled up 63 points on Homecoming to cruise by UVa.-Wise, 63-21.

Led by All-American running back Calvinaugh Jones' 260 rushing yards, the Mountain Lions gained 327 yards on the ground against the Cavaliers. Jones added three rushing touchdowns in the contest.
Additionally, he averaged 15.3 yards per carry as two of his three touchdowns were at least 60 yards in distance.

In the first and third quarters, CU outscored UVa.-Wise, 47-0, as Jones found the endzone in the first quarter and added two more third-quarter scores. Quarterback Brian Novak threw for two touchdowns and 223 passing yards as Concord racked up 556 yards of offense.

The Mountain Lion defense forced four turnovers, including Chaudlier Shepherd running an interception 42 yards for a touchdown midway through the third quarter. Ervin Moore had a team-best six tackles with three being for loss.

The 63 points represented a season high in scoring for the Maroon and Gray, but Concord scored 50 or more points three times during the 2015 campaign.
