STAMFORD, Conn. – Former Concord University defensive back standout Jeremiah Johnson has been drafted by the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL's 2020 Player Draft.

Johnson was taken in Phase 5 of the draft by the Roughnecks. Notables joining Johnson on Houston's 71-man training camp roster are former West Virginia safety K.J. Dillon, Virginia Tech wide receiver Cam Phillips and fellow Super Region One player, East Stroudsburg wide receiver Tim Wilson.

Roughnecks will be Johnson's third professional team. After the 2018 NFL Draft, the Baltimore, Maryland native was signed by the Indianapolis Colts during their spring mini-camp. Johnson also spent time with the now-defunct American Alliance of Football's Salt Lake City franchise.

During his playing days at Concord (2014-17), Johnson was a four-time All-Mountain East Conference First Team selection—the program's only four-time all-conference first team performer. Additionally, Johnson was a three-time all-region selection and made the Honorable Mention All-America Team twice.  Johnson's 11 interceptions rank in a tie for fifth in program history.

The Houston Roughnecks are coached by former Hawaii and SMU head coach June Jones. Houston will open the season February 8, 2020 with a full schedule to be released next week.
