Concord Runs to Second-Place Showing at Golden Bear Classic

BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Concord University women's cross country team placed second with 59 points at the Golden Bear Classic Friday night. 
 
CU was edged for Charleston for the top spot by five points.
 
Reigning Mountain East Conference Athlete of the Week senior Bailey Knowles won the meet with a time 15:33 for the 4,000-meter course. 
 
Fellow senior Karleigh Thompson made a late charge to place fifth in a time of 16:18. Senior Kenna Knowles and junior Aidan Payton were both inside the top 20. K. Knowles crossed the line with a showing of 16:51 as she finished 13th. Payton placed 16thin a time of 17:06. 
 
Senior Taylor Hamm completed the scoring runners for CU as she placed 24th, finishing in 17:39. 
 
Senior Kaylin Kessinger was 28th, completing the course in 17:51. And senior Megan Stemple was in the top 30 as she finished 30thwith a time of 18:10. 
 
Freshman Kyla Marshall (41st/ 18:44), sophomore Lindsey Cummings (43rd/ 18:50), freshman Briana Parsons (55th/20:03), freshman Brittany Vaught (56th/ 20:08) and senior Catrina Russell (64th/22:39) rounded out the competitors at the meet. 
 
The Mountain Lions will race at the University of Virginia next Saturday.
