Katy Walkup and freshman
Violet Wall of the Concord University women's cross country team led the way for the Mountain Lions on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams that have been announced.
The duo was named All-Academic Athletes while Concord as a team was placed on the USTFCCA All-Academic Team List.
Walkup, a native of Summersville, West Virginia, sported a 3.88 GPA as a biology major during her college career as she graduated a semester early in December. This past fall, Walkup finished 83
rd at the Atlantic Region Championship with a time of 23:27 for the 6,000-meter course at Lock Haven.
Wall, a native of Pearisburg, Virginia, was Concord's number one runner throughout the fall cross country season as she placed 53
rd at the Atlantic Regional Championship in a showing of 22:50. She was named the MEC Freshman of the Year and was also a selection to the All-MEC First Team. Wall has a 3.76 GPA in the classroom.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
As a team, Concord sported a 3.61 combined cumulative GPA when made the Mountain Lions eligible for All-Academic Team status.
