Concord Faces Charleston, Heads to UVa.-Wise

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Concord University women's basketball team faces its final two MEC regular season contests of the season when it hosts Charleston before traveling to Wise, Virginia to take on the Cavaliers on the final day of the regular season for MEC schools.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
Concord enters the matchup at 7-19 overall, with a 5-15 record in MEC play. 

Charleston is 9-17 on the year with an 8-12 mark in conference contests.  

UVa.-Wise sits third in the Mountain East Conference at 19-9 overall and 14-6 in league games. 

TOURNAMENT CHASING
Concord remains mathematically alive to make the final spot in the newly formatted Mountain East Conference Tournament held in Charleston, West Virginia. 

The Mountain Lions sit in 11th place, one game behind West Virginia Wesleyan. 

In the new design of the conference tournament, only 10 teams will travel to the Capital City to compete in the conference tournament March 1-4.

In order for Concord to qualify for the conference tournament, the Mountain Lions must defeat both Charleston and UVa.-Wise and have the Bobcats lose to both Shepherd and Glenville State in their final two games. 

West Virginia Wesleyan defeated both Glenville State and Shepherd in the two teams earlier matchups this season, but the Bobcats have lost nine straight games.

Concord was defeated by both Charleston and UVa.-Wise by a combined 10 points earlier this season.  

ENTERING THE RECORD BOOKS
Sophomore guard Emily Boothe entered the record books over the weekend after draining four three-pointers in two games to move into tenth place all-time in made three-point shots. 

The Riner, Virginia native needs just nine more makes to move into a tie with Christina Plutz for ninth on the list. 

Senior guard Olivia Morgan also moved into the top 10 all-time in steals, needing just two more to tie Kama Shaar for ninth on the all-time list. 

Morgan's 3.4 career assists per-game would put her into fourth all-time heading into the matchups against Charleston and UVa.-Wise   

DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Senior guard Alexis Lowery notched her first career double-double in Concord's 90-75 win over Urbana on February 26th. 

The Dandrige, Tennessee native joins junior forward Heather Chapman as the only player on Concord's roster this season to record a double-double. 

Chapman posted two double-doubles this season against West Virginia State, notching games of 21 points and 10 rebounds and 27 points and 11 rebounds in both meetings with the Yellow Jackets this season.  

The only other Concord player on the roster to have recorded a double-double in her career is senior Olivia Morgan, who flirted with a triple-double two years ago at Glenville State, compiling 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

FINAL GO-AROUND
Thursday's game will mark the final home appearances for Morgan, Lowery, senior guard Loni Webb, and junior guard Anne Golinsky

The four players have combined to make 210 appearances for the Mountain Lions over their career.

HIGH VOLUME SCORING
Earlier this season, the Mountain Lions produced 91 points in the 97-91 loss to UVa.-Wise. It was the second-largest point output by CU this season.

Lowery scored 24 points, junior guard Danielle Catron came off the bench to notch 18 points.

Boothe added 13 points in what was the second game of eight in a row with at least 10 points for her.

Additionally, Concord nailed 10 three-pointers in the contest which at the time was the most in a single game this season.

Lowery led the way with four three-pointers while Boothe, Catron and junior guard Lindsey Overbey each added two connections from three-point range.

SCOUTING CHARLESTON
The Golden Eagles have lost 3 out of 4, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan while falling most recently to Fairmont State in a 67-65 loss at home. 

UC is 4-6 away from home. 

The Golden Eagles boast the league's top scorer in Jordyn Peck, who averages 19.1 points per game this season. 

UC ranks fourth in scoring defense, allowing just 66.7 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot just 40.5 percent from the field. 

SCOUTING UVA.-WISE
The Cavaliers sit in third in the Mountain East Conference, ranking second in the league in scoring defense, allowing just 64.5 points per game. 

UVa.-Wise has split their last four contests, defeating West Liberty and Urbana while dropping games to Wheeling Jesuit and Notre Dame. 

The Cavaliers are 12-1 at home. 

UVa.-Wise outrebounds the opposition by almost 10 rebounds per game, led by Kayla Carey and Makenzie Cluesman, who average 6.8 and 6.6 rebounds per game, respectively.   

Cluesman also leads the Cavs in scoring at 13.5 points per game. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
4-  Concord has won four out of its last seven conference games after winning just one of its first 13 MEC contests. 

9-   Alexis Lowery has made three or more three-pointers nine times this season, including the last two games against Urbana and Notre Dame. 

17- Concord's 17 offensive rebounds at Urbana were the most by the Mountain Lions since a November 15th win at Bluefield State.
