FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Concord University women's basketball outscored Lock Haven 15-7 in the final four minutes of the game on its way to a 73-68 win over Lock Haven at the MEC-PSAC Challenge at Joe Retton Arena Saturday afternoon.

The Mountain Lions (1-1) started the fourth quarter down three as they traded buckets with LHU (1-1), but could never tie or take the lead during the stretch. Down 63-60 after a Lock Haven bucket at the 3:23 mark, senior guard Danielle Catron hit a three-pointer to tie the game less than three minutes later.

After her score, Catron came up with a steal and CU finished a quick 6-0 spurt as senior forward Heather Chapman converted an old-school three-point play to give Concord a 66-63 lead with 1:56 remaining.

The Bald Eagles answered right back with a score, but a jumper by sophomore forward Madison May and another three-point play this time by junior guard Andreanna Pool lifted Concord to a 71-65 edge.

Lock Haven got back to within three points, but Pool hit two crucial free throws with 12 seconds left for the final margin of victory.

At the beginning of the game, Concord fell behind 13-2 in the first five minutes. However, the Mountain Lions finished the period strong to only trail 16-14 after 10 minutes. From there, the rest of the game was tight as neither team led by more than six points.

Chapman had a team-high 19 points on 6-for-12 shooting and 7-for-8 shooting at the foul line. May had another strong second half as she scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half. So far this season, May has scored 22 of her 24 points in the second half.

Freshman forward Riley Fitzwater added a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Catron also had 10 points for Concord.

CU welcomes Bluefield State to the Carter Center for its home opener 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
