Concord Loses Versus Shepherd

ATHENS, W.Va. – Three second-half goals by Shepherd was the difference as the Concord University women's soccer team dropped a Mountain East Conference 4-2 to SU Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Concord (10-7, 8-7 MEC) jumped out quickly on the Rams less than seven minutes into the game as freshman midfielder Courtney Wallace served a corner kick. Freshman midfielder Yasmin Mosby poked the ball to sophomore defender Delaney Crumblish who finished off her fourth goal of the season.

CU's second goal also came off a corner kick. Once again, Wallace booted a ball into the box, and freshman midfielder Mira Kontio came crashing in to head the ball into the net for a 2-0 Concord lead in the 35th minute.

Shepherd got a late first-half goal, but Concord led 2-1 at halftime.

The Rams were able to tie the game at 2-2 five minutes into the second half, and added two additional scores in the second half to win by two.

The Mountain Lions registered six shots on goal with no player having more than one in the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Katie Maher stopped six shots. CU had nine corner kicks compared to just three for Shepherd.

Concord hosts Urbana in the final regular season game of the season 1:00 p.m. Saturday. It will also be Senior Day.
