Concord Ties Urbana, Clinches Three Seed in MEC Tournament

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University women's soccer team and Urbana played to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon in Mountain East Conference action at Anderson Field.

Saturday was Concord's first tie of the season as it is now 10-7-1 overall and finishes league play at 8-7-1. Despite the tie, the Mountain Lions clinched the third seed in next week's MEC Tournament with a point in the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Harris made seven of her eight saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless in the first 45 minutes. Harris was forced to make saves in the 11th and 12th minutes as the game remained knotted.

Concord had back-to-back attempts to open the second half as senior midfielder Micharae Thomspon and junior midfielder Taylor Life each had shots saved in the first five minutes of the second half.

Freshman midfielder Yasmin Mosby had a curling shot stopped by UU's Katherine Beach in the 85th minute as the contest headed to overtime.

Each team was only able to attempt one shot in the first overtime.

Freshman midfielder Courtney Wallace had a shot sail in 106th minute and freshman midfielder Karley Poff had a shot saved in the 107th minute.

Mosby had a team-high two shots on goal.

Prior to the game, Thompson along with senior defenders Sarah Akers and Carley Graves were recognized.

The Mountain Lions travel to Notre Dame to open the MEC Tournament Thursday at a time to be determined.
