Concord Loses in MEC Semifinals

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – The Concord University women's soccer team saw its season come to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Notre Dame College in the Mountain East Conference Semifinals Thursday afternoon at Mueller Field.

The Mountain Lions (10-8-1) controlled the first half as they put more shots on goal than NDC (13-3-2), 3-1. Freshman midfielder Yasmin Mosby had a shot saved in the 16th minute while freshman defender Morgan Carmichael also had an attempt turned aside in the 21st minute.

After a Concord foul deep down the right flank in the 29th minute, Notre Dame set up for a free kick at a sharp angle along the goal line. MEC Player of the Year Alexis Manoa played a ball to the far side post and Brooke LaForce found the back of the net for the game's first goal.

CU nearly tied the game on a header by freshman midfielder Mira Kontio in the 40th minute, but her shot sailed high of the goal.
Notre Dame carried the 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Falcons applied pressure to start the second half. Janelle Bernal drove down the left side, crossing a ball that was deflected in for an own goal after a late attempt to clear the ball by the Concord defense.

Concord had two more attempts saved late in the game as junior midfielder Taylor Life and sophomore defender Ali Cook each recorded a shot on goal.

Neither target got past NDC goalkeeper Kyra McDowell who stopped five shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Katie Maher saved six shots for the Maroon and Gray.

Notre Dame had 15 total shots to CU's seven. Each team attempted two corner kicks in the game.

Despite falling in the MEC Semifinals, the Mountain Lions enjoyed their most success since 2012 as they made the postseason for the first time in five years and had four all-conference players.
