RECORDS
CU is 1-6 this season.
The Braves also have just one win, sporting a 1-5 record in 2017.
TWICE AS NICE
For the second straight week, Concord rushed for 100 or more yards as a team.
After running for 147 yards at Glenville State, the Mountain Lions gained 115 yards on the ground against West Virginia State.
Senior running back
Jamal Petty rushed for 85 yards on 13 carries as he averaged 6.5 yards per rush last week to lead the way.
It was the first time Concord has rushed for 100 yards as a team in consecutive games since last season when the same two teams were involved--Glenville State and West Virginia State.
Furthermore, Petty's 85 rushing yards were the most for a CU running back since senior running back
Nick Loftin rushed for 104 yards against West Liberty last season.
Additionally, Petty's 6.5 yards per carry is the best for a CU rusher in a single game since Calvinaugh Jones averaged 15.2 yards per carry on 13 rushes in 2015 versus UVa.-Wise.
MR. CONSISTENT
Freshman quarterback
Adam Fulton tied his career high with three touchdowns against West Virginia State.
Of his three scores, he tossed one each to sophomore wide receiver
Camari Murray, freshman wid receiver
Tywan Pearce and sophomore wide receiver
Brandon Plyler.
It was Murray's fourth straight game with at least one touchdown catch. Murray is the first CU player to have a scoring reception in four straight games since Ryan Stewart during the 2014 season.
With his three touchdown tosses against WVSU, Fulton now ranks third among freshmen in Division II with nine touchdowns.
The Knoxville, Tennessee native is behind Glenville State's Jaylen McNair and Chowan' Bryce Witt.
STAYING DISCIPLINE
Heading into Saturday's game, CU is the least penalized team in the MEC this season.
The Mountain Lions have committed just 43 penalties through seven games, five fewer than Charleston.
Furthermore, Concord has averaged 55.6 penalty yards per game this season, 13 less than second-place UC.
Since being flagged 14 times in the season opener versus West Virginia Wesleyan, Concord has not had more than seven penalties in another game.
Meanwhile, CU's opponents are being whistled for an average of 116.4 penalty yards per contest.
In five of the seven games in 2017, the Mountain Lions' oppositions have been penalized for at least 75 yards.
NON-CONFERENCE NAIL BITERS
While Concord is just 3-3 in its last six games outside of conference play, the games haven't lacked excitement.
Each of the six contests have been decided by one score including last year's 19-18 loss at UNC-Pembroke.
Before last season, Concord picked up a 37-34 home win over Bowie State in 2014 in non-conference play.
The 2013 season featured an 18-10 win over Lenoir-Rhyne, but a 16-10 setback at Bowie State.
In 2012, Concord held off Lenior-Rhyne again by a score of 24-21, but lost to eventual 2012 national runner-up Winston-Salem State, 30-22.
In fact, the last two games against UNC-Pembroke have been tightly contested.
Before last year's matchup, the teams squared off in 2010 with the Mountain Lions grabbing a 30-26 win on the road versus the Braves.
The last time CU didn't have a non-conference regular season Division II game come down to the final minutes was at the beginning of the 2011 season when it fell to Lenoir-Rhyne 26-6.
DEFENSIVE STRUGGLE
The 19-18 game that CU and UNC-Pembroke played last season featured just 367 yards of offense.
One of Concord's scores came on a 29-yard interception return by senior defensive back
Chaudlier Shepherd.
The Mountain Lions limited UNCP to 144 yards of offense.
Concord had not held an opponent under 150 yards of offense since 2014 when it held West Virginia Wesleyan to 149 yards before last season's finale against UNC-Pembroke.
In the defensive effort, junior linebacker
Zach Malone notched a team-high eight tackles.
Malone had one tackle for loss while sophomore linebacker
Ty Walker had a half tackle for lost yardage.
Shepherd added two pass breakups to go along with his interception.
NEW MARKS
A few Mountain Lions set career highs last week against West Virginia State.
Senior linebacker
Aszaun Whiley was the third-leading tackler for CU as he had a career-best six stops.
Sophomore defensive back Myles Poindextor also had a career-high five tackles.
Pearce pulled in a personal-best five catches to go along with his fourth-quarter touchdown.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
3- Yards on rushing touchdown by redshirt freshman
Nathan Toney, the first score by a non-skill player since 2014.
12- Tackles needed by Malone to reach 200 for his career.
48- Number of passing yards Concord held UNC-Pembroke to in last year's game.
UNC-PEMBROKE AT A GLANCE
A year after making the NCAA Division II Playoffs, the Braves' only win this season came in their second game of the season, a 66-14 win over Elizabeth City State.
UNCP had an open week last week after falling 31-28 to nationally-ranked Wingate the week prior.
Like CU, UNC-Pembroke is starting a freshman quarterback, redshirt freshman Dominick Sampson has thrown for 1,078 yards and 10 touchdowns, but also has eight interceptions.
Seven of Sampson's touchdowns have gone to either JoJo Spann or E.J. Williams.
Tyler Hinton has racked up six sacks on the defense and 10 total tackles for loss.
