Box Score INSTITUTE, W.Va- The Concord University women's basketball team scored its highest-point output of the season in a 107-95 loss to West Virginia State on the road.
Concord falls to 2-14 overall, (1-11 MEC), while West Virginia State improves to 9-8 overall, (7-5 MEC).
The Mountain Lions battled closely with the Yellow Jackets throughout the first period, with the score 21-20 in favor of WVSU after one quarter.
CU continued to keep the game close in the second quarter, as junior forward
Heather Chapman snatched her sixth rebound of the game at the 6:35 mark and put the ball in the basket on the tip-in to keep the deficit for Concord at one, 30-29.
After the basket by Chapman, the Yellow Jackets went on a 12-0 run for some breathing room, and eventually closing the half outscoring CU 24-9 to take a 54-38 lead at halftime.
Concord continued to battle in the third quarter, closing the gap to single digits for the first time since 5:23 left in the first half after Chapman went 2-for-2 from the line to make the score 76-67 WVSU at the end of the third.
Concord fought to chip away at the lead, but could not get any closer than nine during the fourth quarter, as WVSU made free throws down the stretch to stave off a Concord comeback attempt to claim a 107-95 victory.
Chapman posted her second career double-double with a career-high 27 points and 11 rebounds. Chapman's first double-double this season also came against WVSU. Sophomore guard
Emily Boothe scored 20 points in her second start of the season. Junior guard
Danielle Catron added 15, while senior guard
Alexis Lowery added 13 points.
Six of Chapman's 11 rebounds were offensive rebounds.
Concord continues its road trip when it travels to Fairmont State on January 26.
