Concord Stumbles Against Notre Dame

ATHENS, W.Va-   The Concord University women's basketball team fell 91-72 against Notre Dame College on Saturday at the Carter Center.

Concord falls to 5-21 on the year, (3-17 MEC), while Notre Dame College improves to 18-8 overall (15-5 MEC).

Concord and NDC both came out of the gate quickly, with the two teams combining for 51 points in the first half, with the Falcons putting up 27 points in the first quarter to Concord's 24.  The Falcons led by as many as nine just six minutes into the game, but Concord managed to rally, going on a 9-2 run with three three-pointers from sophomore guard Lindsey Overbey, sophomore guard Danielle Catron, and freshman guard Emily Boothe each hitting a shot from downtown to spark the run.   The run cut the deficit to two with 2:40 left in the first quarter.  An and-one from junior guard Alexis Lowery with 51 seconds remaining helped to give  Concord momentum heading into the second quarter.

NDC exploded for a 24-7 run in the second quarter to help expand their lead and open the game up for the Falcons, opening up a 20-point lead at halftime.  That quarter proved to be the difference in the game, as Concord managed to keep the pace with the Falcons in the second half, actually outscoring the Falcons 41-40 over the final 20 minutes.  However, the Mountain Lions could not get the game closer than 19 over the final two periods, as Notre Dame matched Concord almost basket for basket.

Notre Dame College held a critical advantage in points in the paint 57-21, while also scoring 17 points to Concord's eight off of turnovers.  The Mountain Lions held the edge in bench scoring, outscoring NDC 23-19.

Concord had four players in double figures, with Overbey leading the charge with 15 points.  Boothe, junior guard Olivia Morgan, and Lowery had 14, 14, and 12 points, respectively.  Overbey also added seven rebounds.  Boothe nailed four-of-six shots from behind the arc.

Concord will now head to Charleston on Thursday for a road matchup against the Golden Eagles at 5:30.
