CHARLESTON, W.Va- The Concord University women's basketball team fell 73-60 on the road to the University of Charleston in the final regular season road game of the year.
Concord falls to 5-22 on the year (3-18 MEC), while Charleston improves to 11-16 overall (9-12 MEC).
Charleston came out strong early, scoring the first six points of the game. The Golden Eagles used the early momentum to help gain a 13-point lead at the break 37-24.
Concord, like they have in recent games, had a stronger second half en route to cutting the deficit to 48-45 with 2:48 left in the third quarter after
Danielle Catron sank a jump shot. The Mountain Lions used a 21-11 run over a span of about seven minutes to bring CU back into the game.. The Mountain Lions trailed by five, 54-49, heading into the fourth quarter.
However, the Golden Eagles began to pull away in the fourth quarter, taking a 12 point lead with just 4:35 left in the game. A steal by freshman guard
Emily Boothe and converting the corresponding layup cut the deficit to seven, but Charleston rallied to stave off the Concord comeback attempt.
Concord was led in scoring by Catron, who scored in double figures for the 17
th time this season.
Alexis Lowery added 12 points, and
Emily Boothe contributed nine points off the bench.
Charleston was led by Chyress Lockhart who scored 21 points. Tia Clement added 15 points off of the bench.
Concord will play their final home game of the season on Saturday against UVa.-Wise. The game will be senior day and will honor Concord's lone senior
Kylie Molisee. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
