ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team opens up Mountain East Conference Tournament play 2:30 p.m. Thursday against the University of the Charleston at Wheeling Jesuit University.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
Concord earned the seven seed in the postseason after a 17-15 overall mark and 8-8 conference record.
The Mountain Lions dropped their final two regular season matches.
In five sets versus Shepherd, sophomore middle hitter
Brooke Heck notched 12 kills while sophomore libero
Erin Shannon added 23 digs.
On Wednesday, Heck and Shannon were both voted to the All-MEC Team. Heck earned a first-team nod while Shannon was an honorable mention selection.
Also in the match versus SU, junior middle hitter
Shea Hoffman move into the top 10 all-time in blocks at Concord. Going into the particular contest the South Charleston, West Virginia native needed three blocks to move past Tara White in the record books.
Hoffman blocked six attack attempts and now has 227 blocks in her career at Concord.
In the regular season finale versus Fairmont State, Heck had 10 kills in 17 chances without an error to record a hitting percentage of .588. It was the 19
th time this season, Heck had a hitting percentage of .300 or better.
Junior setter
Casey Mandeville also handed out 23 assists against FSU.
Heading into the MEC Tournament, Mandeville needs 13 assists to top 1,600 for her career.
Concord and Charleston split a pair of regular season matches with both teams winning at home.
The Golden Eagles swept CU at Charleston during the last weekend of September before the Mountain Lions returned the favor in three sets November 5 at the Carter Center.
In the win over UC, the Maroon and Gray hit .266 as a team, the third-highest hitting percentage for Concord in a conference match this season.
Heck and redshirt freshman outside hitter
Ellie Lawrence both had 11 kills as Heck hit .381 in the match and Lawrence collected a hitting percentage of .290.
Mandeville passed out 23 assists in the match and freshman middle hitter
Emily Ellis had five kills and five blocks.
The Concord defense was stellar against UC as it held the Golden Eagles to 40 points below their season average hitting percentage of .195.
SCOUTING CHARLESTON
UC is 24-12 on the season and 12-4 in the MEC.
Charleston had five selections on the All-MEC Team in Jordan Wittekind (First Team), Carly Granger (Second Team), Shiann White (Second Team), Claire Lambert (Honorable Mention), Kelsey Matusic (Honorable Mention).
Granger had 23 combined kills in two matches against the Mountain Lions this season.
The winner of Thursday's match moves on to the MEC Semifinals 5:00 p.m. Saturday to face the winner of Fairmont State and Notre Dame.
