FAIRMONT, W.Va- The Concord University women's basketball team lost in the season opener to Lock Haven 62-53 in nonconference action on Friday afternoon at Joe Retton Arena.
Concord drops to 0-1 while Lock Haven improves to 1-0 on the season.
Concord began the game close with the Bald Eagles, trailing by just two heading into the second quarter. Sophomore guard
Nila Hellams nailed a three-pointer to tie the game at 14-14 with one minute left in the quarter before LHU made a jumper to take a two-point lead at the end of the period.
LHU used a strong second quarter to extend the lead to double digits, outscoring CU 19-11 over that time span to take a 10-point lead at halftime.
The Mountain Lions pulled closer within the third quarter, cutting the deficit to four after junior forward
Ali Jo Whitman converted a jump shot with 2:36 left in the period to trim the score to 39-35. A steal and layup by Lock Haven gave LHU a six-point lead heading into the final period.

Alexis Lowery brought CU to its closest deficit since 9:42 left in the second quarter after a steal and layup. Concord kept chipping away at the lead and trailed by just two points after sophomore guard
Emily Boothe sank a jump shot to pull CU to within just two points, 50-48, with 3:40 left in the game.
However, Lock Haven used a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to pull away.
Lowery continued her strong start to the season by tying for the game-high in scoring with 16 points while shooting 50 percent from behind the arc (3-for-6). Boothe provided 10 points off of the bench, and junior forward
Heather Chapman also posted double figures with 10 points while collecting four rebounds.
Concord returns to action tomorrow against Clarion. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
