Box Score ATHENS, W.Va -The Concord University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting West Liberty on Wednesday in a Mountain East Conference matchup.
Concord drops to 3-3-3 (2-3-2 MEC) on the season, while West Liberty improves to 2-4-2 (2-3-2 MEC).
West Liberty opened the scoring early on as Thana Oddo found some space at the near post off of a corner kick to volley home the service provided by Briella Taylor in th eighth minute. Junior forward
Emily Cole then forced West Liberty goalkeeper Allie Warsaw into a save in the 18
th minute, and senior forward
Kari Simon also attempted a shot that went wide just 30 seconds later.
Concord started the second half well after junior midfielder
Margot Provencher saw her initial shot deflected. Provencher kept with the play and fired a low shot into the left corner to tie the game at 1-1. Neither team attempted a shot for almost twenty minutes afterwards, however, Oddo found room to fire off a shot off the bounce that snuck into the left corner in the 83
rd minute.
Concord continued to press in the final seven minutes, with Simon testing Warsaw in the 85
th minute.
Concord outshot the Hilltoppers 11-9 overall and 7-6 in attempts on goal. The two teams were even in corner kicks at four apiece.
Concord will next host Notre Dame College on Saturday, October 5. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
