ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University volleyball team will play four games at the Davis & Elkins Tournament starting Friday in Elkins, West Virgnia.
SCHEDULEThe Mountain Lions will play Shippensburg 2:30 p.m. Friday before returning later in the evening to face Slippery Rock at 7:30 p.m.
CU will play a twinbill Saturday as it faces Alderson-Broaddus at 9:00 a.m. and Southern Indiana at 4:00 p.m.
MOUNTAIN LION NOTES• Freshman outside hitter
Alexi Pranckus was named to the Hall of Fame City Challenge All-Tournament Team last weekend after recording a team-high 22 kills and 20 digs in four matches for the Mountain Lions.
• Sophomore middle hitter
Shea Hoffman and freshman middle hitter
Brooke Heck led Concord in hitting percentage as they hit .270 and .265, respectively.
• The duo combined to total 30 kills while committing just 11 errors in the season-opening tournament.
• Last season, the Mountain Lions played four matches at the Davis & Elkins Tournament as they also faced Shippensburg and Slippery Rock, defeating both teams.
• CU got a hard-earned five set win over Shippensburg while it swept Slippery Rock in three games.
• Against SU, sophomore setter
Casey Mandeville recorded 16 assists, and Hoffman added seven kills and six blocks.
• In the match against Slippery Rock, Mandeville recorded her first career 20-assist match as she dished out 22 assists.
• Meanwhile, sophomore middle hitter
Alexis Elliott and sophomore outside hitter
Lisette Roldan each added two kills.
• CU is 1-1 all-time against Shippensburg while last year was the only meeting between Concord and SRU.
• The Mountain Lions also faced also faced A-B in the regular season last year in a home match.
• CU took care of the Battlers in four sets in a match that former Concord great
Sarah Jones recorded her 1,000
th kill.
• In nine meetings against Alderson-Broaddus dating back to 2005, Concord is 3-6 versus A-B.
• Saturday's match will be the first all-time meeting between Concord and Southern Indiana.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS• Shippensburg started the season 2-1 as it defeated Davis & Elkins and Wilmington (Delaware) last weekend.
• Morgan DeFloria has 36 kills to lead the Raiders while Faith Athey has 24.
• Slippery Rock opened the season by going 4-0 at the Pfeiffer Invitational that included a win over MEC foe UVa.-Wise.
• Leah Jones rolled up 52 kills for the Rock on opening weekend.
• Alderson-Broaddus has a record of 2-3 and won its match Wednesday against Point Park in three sets.
• Lauren Rogers has dished out 49 assists through five matches.
• Southern Indiana will be making the trek into West Virginia with a mark of 3-1.
• A pair of USI players have 40 or more kills in Abbey Winter (51) and Shelbi Morris (42).
