Compton Added to Football Coaching Staff

ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord University head football coach Garin Justice has announced the hiring of former WVU and NFL offensive lineman Mike Compton to the Mountain Lion coaching staff.

At CU, Compton will be guiding the Mountain Lions' offensive line alongside Justice.

During his playing days, Compton starred at West Virginia from 1989-1992 where he was a consensus All-American in 1992 as well as an academic All-American in his final season in the Gold and Blue. Compton was also tabbed to the All-Big East First Team in 1991 and 1992. After exhausting his eligibility at West Virginia, Compton was drafted in the third round by the Detroit Lions.

Compton played in the NFL for 12 seasons for three different teams (Lions, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars). The Richlands, Virginia native was on two Super Bowl-winning teams with the Patriots in 2001 and 2003.

Compton's coaching career has included stops as an assistant coach at Tazewell High School, Bluefield College and most recently Fairmont State. The 2005 WVU Hall of Fame inductee was also the head coach at Patrick Henry High School in 2008.

CU will open up the regular season Sept. 5 at West Liberty.
