Concord Travels to West Liberty, Wheeling Jesuit for Pair of Games

ATHENS, W.Va. – After an explosive second half in Monday's win versus Urbana, the Concord University women's basketball team will look to win its second consecutive contest 5:30 p.m. Thursday at West Liberty before heading to Wheeling Jesuit 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

RECORDS
• The Mountain Lions begin this week with a record of 6-14 overall and 6-9 in the Mountain East Conference, placing in ninth in the standings.

• West Liberty will start the weekend in a tie for first in the MEC with Charleston, Fairmont State and Shepherd.

• WJU is 11-7 overall and 8-6 against league foes.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Concord outscored Urbana 50-29 in the second half as CU rolled to an 83-64 win.

• It was the largest margin of victory for the Mountain Lions this season, along with the third-highest scoring half of the season and greatest difference Concord has outscore a team in any half this season.

• The Mountain Lions erased a two-point halftime deficit as the Maroon and Gray opened the second half on a 31-7 run with senior forward Rachel Artrip scoring or assisting on 20 of the 31 points.

• After finishing with a game-high 23 points against UU, Artrip has now scored 12 or more points in four of her last five contests and has seen her scoring average go up a full point from 10.3 to 11.3 points per game in that stretch.

• The Swords Creek, Virginia native also hit a season-high five three-pointers in the win.

• Junior forward Kylie Molisee scored 20 points in the win as she shot 8-for-11 from the field, tying her career high in points which she sits the previous game against Notre Dame.

• Molisee is shooting 66.7 percent (24-for-36) in her last three games, easily her best three-game stretch of the season.

• After missing the previous two games, senior guard Melea Smith came off the bench to record her first double-figure scoring since Jan. 22.

• However, Smith wasn't the only Mountain Lion to have significant production off the bench.

• Freshman guard Lindsey Overbey dished out a career-high five assists while only turning the ball over once in 23 minutes off the bench.

• Even though it was her third-lowest rebounding total of the season, senior forward Jacqueline Kestner notched seven rebounds and now has 579 for her career, seventh all-time at Concord.

• The Mountain Lions will seek to avenge two early-season conference losses to West Liberty and Wheeling Jesuit.

• Despite a 23-10 run to end the first half against WLU, Concord fell 90-65 to the Hilltoppers Jan. 3.

• Artrip finished with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds as she made a season-high seven foul shots versus West Liberty.

• Concord was unable to hang onto a first-half against the Cardinals, losing 76-62.

• Kestner and Smith were the standouts in the first game versus WJU as Kestner scored 20 points and collected 10 rebounds while Smith had 17 points and five assists.

• West Liberty has the highest scoring offense in the MEC (83.0).

• Kailee Howe is at the controls of the Hilltoppers offense as she average 9.4 assists per game, more than double the second-place player.

• West Liberty's Liz Flowers leads the league in points per game (21.2) and made three-point baskets (76).

• WLU has won three of its last four games including an 89-53 win over West Virginia State Monday.

• Meanwhile, the Cardinals have the fourth-best scoring margin in the MEC (+7.1).

• Jaila Bryant is seventh in scoring (15.8).

• The Cardinals possess the third-best scoring defense as they only give up 63.4 points per game.

A CONCORD WIN WOULD…
• A Concord win over West Liberty would be the second straight year the Mountain Lions have defeated WLU on the road.

• A Concord win over Wheeling Jesuit would snap a five-game losing streak against the Cardinals.

• A Concord win over West Liberty and Wheeling Jesuit would get CU back to within a game of .500 (8-9) in the conference standings.
