Concord Prepares for Charleston, Fairmont State

ATHENS, W.Va. -  The Concord University women's basketball team will continue Mountain East Conference play when it travels to Charleston 5:30 p.m. and takes on Fairmont State in a neutral-court game in Logan, West Virginia 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

RECORDS
• CU enters the weekend with a record of 3-7 overall and 3-3 overall. Their .500 mark in conference play puts them in a tie for sixth with UVa.-Wise in the league standings.

• Charleston is one game ahead of Concord in the league standing at 4-2 and they are 9-3 overall.

• Meanwhile, FSU is tied with Charleston at 4-2 in the MEC while they have compiled an overall mark of 10-2.

THE COACHES
Concord's Kenny Osborne is 203-204 in his 14 seasons in Athens.

Adam Collins is in the midst of his third season, compiling a 46-24 record.

Fairmont State has put together a 277-135 record in 14 seasons at the school.

MOUNTAIN LION NOTES
• Concord will be looking to get back on the winning track after dropping its last two conference games against West Liberty and Wheeling Jesuit.

• Monday against WJU, senior forward Jacqueline Kestner had the first 20 point, 10 rebound game of her career and recorded her sixth double-double of the season in the process.  Kestner is third in the MEC in rebounding per game (9.7rpg) and 10th in points per game (14.8ppg). Only Fairmont State's Hailey Garrett and Emily Lohr are ranked in the top-10 in both statistical categories besides Kestner.

• The Blountville, Tennessee was 9-for-15 from the field as she recorded 20 points against Wheeling Jesuit. Kestner has only had one other game this season where she shot better than she did agaisnt WJU.

• Agaisnt Glenville State, Kestner shot 10-for-15 to tally her career high in points (26).

• The Mountain Lions have been able to keep their opponents off the glass this season as they rank second in the MEC in rebounding defense (30.3).

• While Kestner ranks third in the conference in rebounding, junior forward Kylie Molisee is first averaging 10.6 rpg.

• Senior forward Rachel Artrip is making her mark in the CU record books.

• In Concord's game vs. Wheeling Jesuit, the Swords Creek, Virginia passed Holly Bibb-McBride for 10th all-time in career made three-pointers and even tied Meghan Cole for ninth all-time with 96 career threes.

• Artrip also moved into the all-time blocks list, sitting ninth with 46 career rejections. She passed Amber Showalter for 10th all-time and Sierra Brown for ninth all-time.

• Additionally, Artrip has six blocks in her last five games including two multi-block contests against Tarleton State and West Liberty.

• Over the last two games, sophomore center Alley Odell has been inserted in the starting lineup for the Mountain Lions.

• Since the move, Odell has tallied a career-high in points (nine versus West Liberty) and was also a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line agaisnt Wheeling Jesuit.

• After connecting on three three-pointers versus WJU, senior guard Melea Smith moved into the 10 in the MEC in made three-pointers (10th / 18).

• Smith also registered a career-high five assists against the Cardinals.

• Over her last two game, freshman guard Lindsey Overbey has relished her role since being plugged into the starting lineup for CU.

• Overbey played a career-high 28 minutes against Wheeling Jesuit and made a career-high five free throws in the contest.

• In the game previous versus West Liberty, the Gate City, Virginia native handed out a career-high three assists while playing 25 minutes.

• For the second consecutive year, the Mountain Lions will matchup with Fairmont State for a game at Willie Akers Arena in Logan.

• Concord had success in beating the Falcons, 67-64, a season ago in the neutral-court battle.

• Concord shot a blazing 70 percent from three-point range (7-for-10) as Kestner was 3-for-4 from behind the arc while Artrip was 2-for-3 from three-point distance.

• Kestner was the game's leading scorer as she had 20 points to go along with nine rebounds.

• Charleston is led by Nichole Perry who is averaging 13.6 ppg.

• As a team, the Golden Eagles are only allowing 57.2 ppg, best in the MEC. They are holding teams to 37 percent shooting from the field this season.

• The aforementioned Garrett and Lohr along with Hallie Gunnoe of Fairmont State power the Falcon offensive attack as the trio has combined to average46.7 points for FSU.

• While Charleston is third in field-goal defense, Fairmont State has the best field-goal defense in the conference (35.7)

A CONCORD WIN WOULD...
• A Concord win over Fairmont State would mark the second consecutive year that the Mountain Lions have beaten the Falcons in Logan.

• A Concord win over Charleston and Fairmont State would give CU five wins this season.

• A Concord win against Charleston would be the first CU win over the Golden Eagles since the 2011-2012 season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
